No other time in 31 years: bills ready two days after the quarter closes.

Since switching to Current, the Borough of Macungie changed borough managers without missing a billing cycle and posted the fastest billing turnaround one 31-year employee has ever seen.

Looking for something more responsive

The Borough of Macungie sits in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, and bills about 1,200 service connections. Before switching to Current, they ran on a system that worked well enough day to day. The problem was support. When something actually went wrong, answers were slow. That's what got the Borough looking for a new platform, and Current stood out.

Three billing systems in 31 years

Doug McNair has watched the Borough's billing change hands more than once. When he started, the billing clerk was running a DOS program called Mr. Bill. From there Macungie moved to UBMax, where it stayed for years. In 2025 it moved to Current.

That history is what gives his read on the last year weight. He isn't comparing Current to nothing. He's comparing it to every billing system the Borough has used since he walked in the door.

When I first started, many years ago, I recollect the billing clerk was using a DOS program called Mr. Bill, then migrated over to UB Max. In 2025, we migrated over to Current.

A smooth switch, start to finish

Macungie kicked off onboarding in mid-September 2025 and was live on Current five weeks later, on October 24, 2025. A full billing cycle ran cleanly on the new platform from day one.

Current's team worked closely with the Borough on the details: verifying banking setup, rechecking high-consumption exceptions by hand before the first bill run went out, and making sure nothing fell through the cracks on either side.

A new manager, up to speed in six weeks

The borough manager who ran the switch to Current left a few months after go-live. It's the kind of gap that can undo a recent migration, since the person who learned the new system is the one walking out the door.

Kal Sostarecz took the job, and day-to-day billing came with it. Six weeks in, he wrote to Current's CEO directly to say he had been using the platform heavily since he started and was already proficient with it, without ever needing dedicated training.

Current's support team kept pace with him: cleaning up a batch of move-out records, resolving an export field issue with the Borough's meter-reading system, and turning around bulk billing-preference changes the same week they were requested. Kal has been Macungie's primary contact ever since, and billing stayed on schedule straight through the handover.

I've been pretty heavily involved in government IT systems for the past 25 years and am very impressed by Current. Keep up the good work!

One log instead of two

Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection requires the Borough to keep a complaint log. Doug had been maintaining it separately, in its own book. He asked whether Current could add a Complaint option to the Type dropdown on service orders, so the log could sit with the meter records instead of alongside them.

It could. Service order types are configurable, so the Borough added their own. The DEP complaint log now lives in the same system as the meters, the reads, and the accounts, and Doug stopped keeping two sets of records.

From support ticket to self-service

In July, Kal wanted a number the system didn't report out of the box: total consumption for each quarter, broken out by location type, with every location on its own row. That kind of request usually goes to the vendor and comes back days later as a one-off spreadsheet.

What he got instead was fifteen minutes of screen share to learn the custom report builder. The session happened the same afternoon, and he built the report himself on the call. Saved reports re-run on demand, so he can pull the same numbers next quarter without asking anyone.

The results

More than a year after the switch, after a change of borough manager and a move to a new meter-reading workflow, billing at Macungie is faster than it's ever been.

After the second-quarter 2026 billing cycle, longtime Borough employee Doug McNair wrote in to Current's support team. The bills were ready two days after the quarter closed, something he had not seen in 31 years of service.

Since working within Current coming up on a year, the data keeps improving for each meter reading and billing cycle along with your terrific support.

In their own words
I can recall no other time in my 31 years of service with the Borough that we had the utility bills ready 2 days after the end of the 2nd quarter billing cycle. Granted, it is team effort, but Current is a big part of the team.
